Kallista Taps the Past for Inspiration

Founded in 1979, Kallista, a subsidiary of venerable American firm Kohler, is reflective of its name, which means "most beautiful" in Greek. Recent additions to its rich archive of designs include new pieces for Script, a chic bathroom suite inspired by the Gilded Age, and Per Se, which reflects the clean-lined shapes of midcentury design.

Script, while rooted in a 19th-century aesthetic, is a transitional style that adds an air of sophistication to any interior, whether you’re installing the full collection or just select elements. The complete lineup includes a console table with customizable legs, crystal and enamel decorative lever and cross handles, sink and deck mounting faucets (available in two designs), bath fillers and wall-mount bath spouts, showerheads and showering controls, plus a range of accessories. Available in nickel silver and chrome, it’s also available in Kallista’s newest finish, Blush Bronze, which offers a warm golden hue and a soft satin finish. What we especially love are the glittering, new handcrafted crystal knobs created in partnership with lauded French firm Saint-Louis, part of the Hermès Group. It’s just one of several knob options (there are porcelain and enameled designs to choose from) but we're smitten with the sparkle.

Per Se offers a completely different aesthetic—slender, soft and minimalist lines with nods to 1950s and 1960s design. New to the collection this year is a clear-crystal knob also handcrafted by Saint-Louis glassblowers. The hand-cut and hand-polished knobs were designed in a stacked form that allows the purity of the material to shine. The knobs rest on metal bases in polished chrome, nickel silver, black nickel or polished gold finishes. Also new this year is a console topped with black marble and available with customizable legs, and two freestanding, cast-stone soaking tubs that come in subtly shaped round and square forms.
