Urban Asset Group Puts a Sleek and Inviting Spin on a Home Renovation in Silver Lake

“We are driven by incredible design and obsessed with the details,” says Urban Asset Group’s Alan Quach who, alongside partners Travis Bayles and Steven Moran, make up Urban Asset Group. Founded in 2014, the real estate investment company focuses on acquiring, crafting and selling premium residential properties throughout Los Angeles.

“With each project, we take a deliberate process and seek to work with exceptional architects, interior designers and other people who value craftsmanship to bring our vision to life,” Quach shares, “Our ultimate goal is to create as much value as possible for our investors and our community by enhancing our environment, inside and out.” With that in mind, the group as shifted their focus from to major remodels and ground up construction.

Take their latest offering as one example—1916 Micheltorena Street (listed by Compass). Like many of Urban Asset Group’s properties, it’s located in Northeast Los Angeles. Perched at the top of a hill in Silver Lake, the newly renovated home, originally built in 1936, was created in tandem with Andrew Obermeyer of Obermeyer Architecture.

“This one was a pretty challenging undertaking,” Quach admits, “We had only planned to do an interior remodel.” But a thorough look at the property revealed extensive foundation damage. In addition to remedying that, Obermeyer expanded the home back towards the hill. “Then we worked with him on the interior. We wanted something minimal with lots of warm, neutral tones that reflect the neighborhood’s chic and collected vibe.

Now the transitional 3 bedroom, 3 and a half bath home amplifies the best of Southern California living. Taking its inspiration from its surroundings, wood and windows predominate. Floor-to-ceiling bi-folding La Cantina doors flood the interior with natural light, creating a seamless flow from the 2,838 square foot two story home to the exterior’s breathtaking views of the San Gabriel Mountains, Silver Lake and DTLA.

Upstairs, alongside two junior ensuite bedrooms, the premier suite showcases two walk-in closets and a bathroom with a dual vanity, custom wood cabinets, a large soaking tub, a rain shower which, with its skylight, gives the impression of being outdoors. Little details, like sparkling Grohe hardware and Duravit plumbing fixtures, are the graceful finish to a meditative retreat.

For the sleek, modern kitchen downstairs, the trio chose sophisticated appliances from New Zealand-based Fisher & Paykel as a “good value for the dollar.” A favorite of chefs, such as Ludo LeFebvre of Trois Mec and Petit Trois, the company is renowned for its innovative design, its sustainable production and its sleek beauty. Its panel-ready fronts enabled the appliances to be perfectly integrated into the kitchen’s design. Covered in European White Oak sourced from Shinnoki, and custom-milled by Innovative Millworks, the result is a seamless presentation that echoes the home’s focus on elegance and polish.

For all of the kitchen and bath products, Urban Asset Group turned to their trusted source—Nancy Lares of Snyder Diamond. “Nancy makes the process easy and we know that should we ever have a problem Snyder Diamond has our back,” says Quach. (Thanks Alan!) “We met Nancy through an interior designer we worked with on a ground up project we did a couple of years ago. It was a beautiful project that really gave us a solid foundation and we’re hoping to do more ground-up builds and extensive remodels.”

We are looking forward to that!
