For its latest collection, Luv, German company Duravit tapped Danish designer Cecilie Manz, seen above, to create a suite of bathroom furnishings that reflect a truly Scandinavian aesthetic. Manz, who studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and the University of Art and Design in Helsinki, founded her studio in 1998, and has produced a wide range of designs for the home, including furniture for Fritz Hansen and speakers for Bang & Olufsen. The award-winning designer is just the latest in Duravit’s long history of working with some of the most prominent names in the field, like Philippe Starck, who designed their Cape Cod collection.
The Luv collection, which debuted in Las Vegas this month, is comprised of washbasins in three sizes (including a hand-rinse basin that’s perfect for small spaces), a freestanding bathtub that can also be fitted against a wall or into a corner, and bathroom furniture with a painted finish in shades of white, taupe gray and blue, with countertops of either quartz or solid American walnut. The muted palette of white, gray and sandy tones enhance the soft oval forms—a shape that was inspired by Manz noticing the beautiful simplicity a bowl of water sitting on a table. (If hard edges are more your thing, check another new Duravit line, DuraSquare.) Luv also includes a large mirror with softened corners that reflect the ovoid shapes of the collection. The upper portion of the mirror features dimmable LED lighting that is operated by a control panel concealed within the mirror. The mirror can also be heated to prevent condensation and ensure a clear reflection after a hot bath. The Luv mirror also marks the next step in Duravit’s mirror program, which debuted last October with two designs, below, that offer ambient light on either two or four sides.
