Kitchen and Bath Showrooms Los Angeles County

Sky's the Limit with Shelley Starr

It’s telling that designer Shelley Starr’s list of services includes “peace of mind”—she’s not only known for creating clean-lined, functional and easy-to-enjoy interiors, she’s known for smoothly guiding clients through what can be a very stressful time. She also offers a full building service, giving her more control over myriad sensitive aspects like time and cost, something else that can help make a client’s life just a little bit easier. So in demand is Starr’s look and approach that she also opened showroom, Shelley Starr Home, on Montana in Santa Monica. A home should “make you stop and smile at the world you have created,” she says. We couldn’t agree more.

How would you describe your aesthetic? My signature aesthetic is that of quiet, modern elegance. Some say “ethereal” and some say I'm “coastal California living.” I say don't put me in a box!

How did you get started in the business? I've been designing interiors and product for 18 years. I've been infatuated with the art of living beautifully since I was young enough to move the furniture in my parent’s home.

From where or what sources do you derive creative inspiration? This is tricky. I'm inspired daily by architects and developers who are pushing the boundaries of home design. However, most my creative inspiration comes from my travels and they way I move around the world between countries and jobs. I truly believe this is what is unique about my style, and I believe this is extremely apparent as one studies my furniture designs as well.

If you could reside on a Hollywood film set from any era, what would it be and why? The Great Gatsby—the one with Leo—fantastic!

What takes a kitchen or bath from ordinary to extraordinary? Execution, execution...execution! It's about melding form and function with stunning appliances and fixtures that inspire us. Anyone who knows me knows I am obsessed with kitchens and bathrooms and the experience my clients have with these rooms.
