When South Korean designer Paik Sun Kim approached Fantini about a possible collaboration, the answer was a resounding yes. His design (below) is called AK/25 and marks the third in a series of design-driven faucets and shower systems created for Aboutwater, a special partnership between Fantini and Boffi. (The first collection, AF/21, was with Naoto Fukasawa and the second, AL/23, was with Piero Lissoni.) When the collaboration began, Daniela Fantini “delved into his work” and “fell in love with the lightness and poetry running through his architecture,” she says. It’s that same spirit that imbues AK/25. The designer, whose firm Paiksun Design is based in Seoul, took water itself as the inspiration for the design, contemplating its different forms—rain, snow, sea—as well as its changing sounds and colors, as he refined the forms. Hear him in his own words in this Fantini video.
In related news, Fantini USA has launched its second annual Fantini Design Awards competition. Architects, designers, builders and developers: submit your projects for consideration between now and 15 July 2018. Winners will be selected by a panel of judges, with one representative per winning project given a four-day, all-expenses-paid trip to Casa Fantini this September. We encourage all of you to enter your projects!
Casa Fantini, the company's Piero Lissoni-designed boutique hotel (above) is an extraordinary experience and one we got to visit on our trip to Salone del Mobile this spring. We also got a special look at Fantini’s new nearby showroom and factory, which we toured with Riccardo Conti, Vice-President of Fantini USA. (See more of our trip highlights here.)
Again, a very special thank you to everyone who participated in the tour!
