LifeSpa from Dornbracht: A New Way to Experience Water

German manufacturer Dornbracht has unveiled its latest wellness concept, LifeSpa, a collection of spa-inspired bathroom fittings designed to recreate a true spa experience at home. But it also goes way beyond the purely indulgent spa aspects and turns the bathroom into an immersive wellness room, all thanks to inventive new water applications.

"In the future, much preventive health care will take place in the home," says managing director Andreas Dornbracht of the growing trend in at-home therapies. "Water applications can enhance a health-conscious lifestyle in a variety of ways–not just with regard to physical fitness but also as far as mental performance and life energy are concerned."

The products can be used individually or as an ensemble, as Dornbracht displayed them at ISH in Frankfurt this spring. Elements include a massaging shower that targets pressure points along the neck and spine, and a horizontal shower designed to be used while lying down. The company worked with therapist Christoph Stumpe of the Shen Men Institut to develop massage jets that would aid muscle tone and recovery by increasing the flow of blood through the muscles. Similarly, the hand-held water tube encourages blood flow, circulation and metabolism. The collection also includes a tap designed specifically for facials and a luxurious footbath.

Also new from Dornbract is Aquamoon, a shower head that releases a flow of water that completely envelopes the body, rushing over it in either a powerful cascade or in gentle, almost weightless drops. It’s a multi-sensory experience that includes chromotherapy, and is designed to be used alone or as part of a complete LifeSpa suite.

It’s no surprise that Aquamoon, designed by L.A.'s own Michael Neumayr, was voted one of the most extraordinary new products at Salone del Mobile this year. And hands down, Dornbracht's exhibit was one of the most spectacular at the fair. It was a favorite of all the designers who joined us for a private tour of the fair with Russ Diamond, one of the many specially curated events for our Milan 2018 trip.
