We often hear designers refer to hardware as “jewelry” for the kitchen and bathroom, and that couldn’t be more apt than for the Josef Ruefelli Collection from Colonial Bronze, which could easily be mistaken for luxury men’s cufflinks. The line was inspired by one of two Swiss brothers, Josef Ruefelli, who founded Colonial Bronze in Connecticut 1927. Josef was influenced by Italian design and keenly interested in precision—in fact, the company still has his toolbox, replete with drafting tools, calipers and micrometers—which plays heavily into the patterning of the collection. There are grids, x-patterns, fish scales, circles, stars and even brick-like designs, all meticulously machined with the aid of computer software. As with fine crystal, the patterns are engraved using diamond-tipped tools. And because of the company’s incredible artistic ability and flexibility, they can also work directly with customers to create bespoke designs.
The pulls and handles are made from solid raw brass and completed with either single or multiple finishes, like a matte-black surface with a rose gold design. The possibilities are almost endless. They can also be designed as appliance pulls or as specialty hardware for a beautiful closet.
As well, the collection is certified by Scientific Certification Systems to contain 94% recycled material, and its use in a project can help architects and designers toward a site’s LEED® certification. Simply put, the designs are as green as they are gorgeous.
