Get Clean The Old-Fashioned Way: Do It Outside

Five sexy outdoor showers with a European accent.

Our minds are on summer living as we mark the solstice, so this week we’ve rounded up five fab outdoor showers. They run the style gamut from sleek to industrial, with myriad finishes. There’s even a “water wellness gazebo.” The unifying thread? They’re all gorgeous, efficient European designs that add a retreat-like feel to any outdoor space.

Simplicity at its Best: The Vola FS3

The FS3 from Danish brand Vola exudes the clean minimalism extolled by the company’s first designer, architect Arne Jacobsen, in the 1960s. The shower (which is equally suited to indoor applications) features a handheld shower attachment, and comes in chrome, brushed chrome, or stainless steel finishes. We love its sleek, slim silhouette.

Dutch Design with a New York Edge

Designed by Amsterdam-based design studio Grand & Johnson, JEE-O’s Soho shower is made of stainless steel and finished with a black hammer coating for an industrial look. It’s strikingly simple and contemporary, and available as a free-standing design or wall-mounted, as seen below.  The joystick-like mixer is a hallmark of the company’s designs, as is the button that regulates the shower from closed to open and from cold to hot.

The Italian Stallion of Showers

CEA Design makes several outdoor showers (you can see all of them here) but we especially love the simplicity and architectural quality of Bold. It glistens in stainless steel but is also available in polished and Corten finishes. It was designed by CEA co-founder Natalino Malasorti.

An Outdoor Spin on an Indoor Classic

The MilanoSlim from Fantini uses teak, the wood so incredibly resistant to water. The showerhead and body jets are marine-grade stainless steel. The design incorporates two hidden fixing systems that safely secure the shower to the wall, or that set within the ground, depending on how you choose to install the design.

Step Inside—the Wazebo is a Revelation

Who among us wouldn’t have fun with the Wazebo, a water wellness gazebo from Zucchetti? The minimalist design (available as a single or a double unit) is essentially a showering pavilion, with an open, tubular metal structure and slatted shower tray. The joystick single-lever mixer makes it possible to easily adjust the flow to just the right temperature. The Wazebo was designed by Ludovica and Roberto Palomba, founders of the Milan-based firm, Palomba Serafini Associati. The duo is perhaps best known stateside for their furniture designs for Poltrona Frau.
