A Sneak Peek Inside Piero Lissoni's Milan Design Studio

The over-achieving architect lets us invade his workspace.

Our trip to Milan this spring was nothing short of spectacular. Every day brought something special but the visit to Piero Lissoni’s studio has really stayed with all of us. To be in that space (the building was designed by architects Richard Rogers and Renzo Piano in 1972) and to personally experience the creative environment that inspires such creative output… well, pretty humbling. Check out that PK26 wall-mounted sofa—it was designed by Poul Kjærholm in 1956 and manufactured by Fritz Hansen. Gorgeous. (In fact, Lissoni credits Kjærholm as a major source of inspiration.) The fiberglass Eames chairs were a little touch of home for us Angelenos, and the Philippe Starck gnome made us smile. So did the photo of Keith Richards. We also got to see project boards and areas where the architect displays personal items and inspirational images. Who doesn’t love a good snoop?

Over the years, Lissoni has designed celebrated interiors around the globe but he’s perhaps best know for the furnishings he’s created for brands including Cappellini, Flos, Kartell, Boffi, Alessi, Fritz Hansen and B&B Italia. It was at Salone del Mobile this year that he debuted his latest B&B piece, a modular sofa system called Dock.

In 2018, Lissoni unveiled the new Casa Fantini hotel and Fantini’s headquarters on Lake Orta. That was another fantastic tour — read all about our visit here. He has a long history with the company. Not only did he also design their Milan flagship, his AL/23 collection is one of our all-time favorites.

Pretty neat trip, right? Keep an eye on our social media accounts, where this fall we’ll begin revealing our 2020 travel plans for Snyder Diamond and friends! We’ll go rain or shine.
