What is biophilic design?

If you haven’t heard of biophilic design, here's a brief description: biophilic design is a concept used within the design and building industry where efforts are put into place to increase human connection to the natural environment in a home, a business setting, or a public space. In turn, Biophilia is our human instinct to connect with nature and other living creatures and as it turns out, Sage, Kelly, Emerald, Olive, and other lush shades of green can help achieve this.

Why is green trending for interior design in 2022

Color is more than eye candy—hue, tone, and brightness can define the ambiance of our environments and impact our mood, motivation, and productivity. According to Feng Shui philosophy, green is associated with wood energy, the energy of growth, decisiveness, and action. According to color scientists, shades of green in our environment can help to create a soothing, calming effect. With these concepts in mind, it makes sense that during the pandemic, when many of us spent inordinate amounts of time in our homes, the innate desire to be outside and in harmony with nature surged, and green and natured-based design and architectural solutions flourished. Many took to optimizing outdoor areas into liveable extensions of their indoor spaces, while others optimized their indoor spaces to reflect the outdoors, where green often has played a role. This 2022 Interior Design Trend includes splashy green tiles and appliances to subtle accents and moments, check out this selection of green kitchen and bath imagery that brings the outdoors in—but be warned, it may fill you with envy.
