Ginna Christensen's Top Picks for WestWeek 2018

Heading to WestWeek and still not sure which events to choose? We asked Ginna Christensen of GC Collaborative for her must-sees in the 2018 Design is Global lineup. You can visit the Pacific Design Center’s site to view the full program and register.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 21

The Business of Design: "This is a subject we have touched on before with my women’s group Women at Work. Creatives are not always great at running their own businesses. They tend to not keep up-to-date invoicing, don’t always track their real costs, and tend to avoid it all and just concentrate on the creative work. Moderated by Vanessa Kogevinas of Luxe Interiors + Design magazine, this talk is a must for me and for the creatives I know in the market place."

Maison & Object, A Global Reportage: "I love Paris, and I love going to shows and getting out of my day-to-day routine. I find that by doing so, I’m able to come up with bigger and better creative ideas. I didn’t have the opportunity to go to Maison & Object this year, so this is a talk that I do not want to miss."

L.A. and the New Global Style: "Moderated by one of my favorites, Michael Wollaeger of Design LA, with a panel that includes Paola Russo of Just one Eye, Pamela Shamshiri, and Martyn Lawrence Bullard. Need I say more?"

Craving Cool: A Conversation on Current Design Trends, Inspiration + What Designers Want Now: "I’m always craving cool, and I love the way Interior Design magazine highlights cool projects from around the globe. It has a distinctive point of view, and I look forward to hearing it at this talk with the amazing Joan Behnke."

THURSDAY, MARCH 22

Global Heritage: Weaving Decorative History Into Modern-Day Masterpieces: "All of my favorite people in one place! A conversation like this is only as good as its moderator and, in my opinion Krissa Rossbund of Traditional Home is one of the best. I’ve had the pleasure of traveling to antique fairs with Toma Clark, and admire Gary Gibson’s honesty and directness. I’m not missing this."

The Internationally Inspired Designer: "When Sue Firestone speaks, I listen!"  [This C magazine-sponsored panel also includes longtime Snyder Diamond clients Caren Rideau and Mark Weaver, whom we recently featured on "Designers We Love."]

And just for fun, did you know that David Hockney painted the PDC? Our cover image for this post is Hancock St., West Hollywood II, 1989. While the original painting belongs in a private collection, you can occasionally still find the special poster version that was created as part of a West Hollywood fundraiser in the early 1990s. Happy hunting!
